HELP how do I get rid of bamboo?

I moved into a new house last year and I have a lot of Bamboo! its all over the garden even growing up in little gaps in the patio! I have tried cutting it down and have been digging up the roots but it keeps coming back...does any one know of anything I can spray on it or have any brilliant ideas to get rid of if?? Thanks
